Charles Sampson Confident Black Princesses Will Be Mentally Ready for South Africa Test
Head coach of Ghana’s U20 Women’s National Team, Charles Sampson, has expressed confidence in his squad’s mental strength as they prepare for the decisive return leg against South Africa in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
The Black Princesses endured a frustrating first-leg encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium, where they surrendered their advantage twice to settle for a 2-2 draw. Agnes Yeboah opened the scoring for Ghana before Linda Owusu Ansah restored the lead in the second half, but the visitors fought back on both occasions to keep the tie finely balanced.
With the away fixture now looming, Sampson believes his players have the psychological resilience to handle the pressure and deliver the required result on foreign soil.
“We have a crop of players that are mentally strong and psychologically, we will also do those parts and get them tuned and ready for the next to make sure we get what we are looking for,” he said.
The coach also emphasised the nature of two-legged ties, insisting his team remains focused on the task ahead. “We know that there are two games; a home and away, that is why we are here. We are going to prepare and make sure we go to South Africa at their home and go forward,” Sampson added.
Ghana must secure a victory in South Africa to advance to the final qualifying round, where they could face either Zambia or Uganda for a place at the global tournament.
