Anita Wiredu, assistant coach of the Black Queens, has backed FIFA’s latest directive mandating the presence of a female coach on the bench for women’s teams, describing it as a timely opportunity for growth in the profession.

The new policy by FIFA requires that all women’s teams must include either a female head coach or assistant coach in their technical area during matches, a move aimed at increasing female representation in football leadership.

Reacting to the development, Wiredu emphasized that the directive serves as both a challenge and a motivation for women in coaching to rise to the occasion.

“It challenges us the female coaches to be up and ready,” she told Joy Sports.

The former Ghana international believes the policy will not only open doors but also push female coaches to improve their technical capacity and readiness for top-level competition.

Wiredu’s comments reflect a broader sentiment within the women’s football community, where the move is seen as a significant step toward inclusivity and professional development, ensuring that female coaches are not just present but actively contributing at the highest level.
