Ghana Opens 2025 ITTF-Africa Championships with Commanding Victories in Tunisia
Team Ghana made a bright start to their campaign at the 2025 ITTF-Africa Championships in Rades, Tunisia, delivering a series of confident performances across the women’s, men’s, and mixed doubles categories.
In the Women’s Singles Round of 64, Ghana’s Cynthia Kwabi set the tone with a composed and dominant display, defeating Rwanda’s Mbabazi Twizerane 4–1 (11–6, 11–6, 11–8, 9–11, 11–8). Kwabi’s sharp forehand control and tactical patience earned her Ghana’s first singles victory of the tournament, showcasing her growing maturity on the continental stage.
The momentum continued in the Men’s Singles Round of 128, where James Marfo produced a commanding performance to beat South Africa’s Terrence Mathole 4–1 (11–8, 10–12, 12–10, 11–8, 11–4). After narrowly dropping the second game, Marfo responded with composure and precision, dictating the tempo with consistent attacking play to book his spot in the next round.

Ghana’s fine form extended into the Mixed Doubles Round of 64, as James Marfo paired with Eva Adom-Amankwaa to overcome Uganda’s Joshua Magaya and Judith Nangonzi in a thrilling five-game encounter. The Ghanaian duo rallied from behind to win 3–2 (9–11, 11–6, 9–11, 11–5, 11–8), showing excellent teamwork and resilience to complete the comeback.
The trio of victories signals a strong opening day for Ghana, reflecting both preparation and confidence in the squad. With the early momentum on their side, the team now aims to maintain their performance levels as they progress into the latter stages of the ITTF-Africa Championships in Tunisia.
