Fiorentina Part Ways With Tariq Lamptey Following Season-Ending Injury
ACF Fiorentina have reportedly ended the contract of Ghana international Tariq Lamptey less than a season after the defender arrived in Italy.
The right-back joined the Serie A outfit ahead of the 2025/26 campaign after deciding against a move to AFC Ajax. Lamptey instead remained at Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. until the expiration of his deal before eventually sealing a switch to Florence.
Before his spell at Brighton, the Ghanaian defender rose through the academy ranks at Chelsea F.C., where he was regarded as one of the club’s promising young full-backs.
Lamptey’s time in Italy, however, was heavily disrupted by injury. The defender featured in only two matches for Fiorentina, playing a combined total of 25 minutes before suffering a serious ACL injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
The latest setback has added to the player’s long-standing injury struggles, which have repeatedly interrupted his progress in recent years.
According to reports from Italian football sources, Fiorentina have now decided to terminate Lamptey’s contract “with immediate effect”, with the club reportedly taking the decision due to the severity of his injury situation.
The development is also expected to affect Lamptey’s international prospects with the Ghana national football team, as the defender now appears unlikely to be available for selection ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
