Sacking Otto Addo will be a disaster- Laryea Kingston
Former Ghanaian international Laryea Kingston has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to maintain Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars despite the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana failed to make it to the AFCON in Morocco for the first time in 20 years; with many calling for the sack of head coach Otto Addo.
However, Kingston has expressed confidence in Addo’s ability to reflect on his shortcomings and make improvements moving forward.
“For me, at the moment, we shouldn’t change anything. I think Otto is even disappointed in himself. And I believe by now he’s trying to ask himself questions about what really happened and what he can do to improve it.”
Kingston cautioned against making hasty changes to the technical team, suggesting it could destabilize the team’s preparations for upcoming competitions.
“If we change the coach and the technical team and bring in new faces, it will be a disaster,” he stated. “I think we should allow him to at least finish the World Cup qualifiers – who knows? Maybe he can qualify. And then after that, we make a decision as a country. So we should give him another opportunity.” He told Flashscore.
Addo’s tenure has come under intense scrutiny following Ghana’s inability to secure a spot at AFCON 2025, raising questions about his future with the team.
