Desmond Ofei Names 31-Man Home-Based Black Meteors Squad for Olympic Qualifiers Preparations
Black Meteors head coach Desmond Ofei has unveiled a 31-man home-based squad for an intensive training camp as Ghana begins preparations for the upcoming Olympic qualification campaign.
The camp forms the first phase of the national under-23 team’s build-up, with the technical staff aiming to lay a solid foundation before the crucial qualification matches.
Ofei’s selection reflects the depth of talent in Ghana’s domestic game, with players drawn largely from the Ghana Premier League as well as clubs in the country’s lower divisions.
The goalkeeping department is led by Daniel Afful of Accra Lions FC and Gidios Aseako of Dreams FC, who headline a four-man contingent competing for places between the posts.
In defence, Ofei has called up ten players, including Paul Yeboah of Medeama SC and Samuel Achampong of Bibiani Gold Stars SC. The pair are expected to provide leadership and stability as the coaching staff shapes the team’s defensive structure.
The midfield unit features eight players, with George Paako of Accra Hearts of Oak SC and Vision FC playmaker Sowa Adjetey among the standout names selected to control the tempo and creativity in the centre of the pitch.
Ofei has also assembled a nine-man attacking group, banking on pace and finishing ability to strengthen the team’s offensive options. Among those invited are Clinton Kumi of FC Samartex 1966 and Peter Amidu Acquah of Asante Kotoko SC.
All invited players have been instructed to report to camp on Wednesday, where they will begin a series of intensive training sessions under the guidance of the technical team.
The training programme will focus on evaluating player fitness, developing tactical cohesion and building a competitive squad capable of securing Ghana’s place at the Olympic Games.
With Olympic qualification on the horizon, the Black Meteors will be hoping the camp provides the platform for a successful campaign and another opportunity to represent Ghana on the global stage.
