2027 U-20 AFCON: Sports Minister to Form Local Organising Committee
Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams is preparing to establish a Local Organising Committee (LOC) to spearhead Ghana’s preparations for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The committee will be responsible for coordinating the planning and delivery of the tournament, ensuring Ghana is ready to stage one of Africa’s biggest youth football competitions. Its mandate is expected to cover key areas such as infrastructure, logistics, accommodation, security, marketing and overall tournament operations.
The move marks the beginning of Ghana’s official build-up to the championship, with preparations now shifting into full gear following the Black Satellites’ recent international engagements.
On the football front, the technical team is expected to begin assembling and evaluating a refreshed squad as Ghana targets success on home soil.
The 2027 tournament will be the first time Ghana hosts the continental youth championship since 1999, when the Black Satellites captured the title after defeating Nigeria in the final. That triumph remains one of the country’s most memorable achievements in youth football and helped cement Ghana’s reputation as a powerhouse on the continent.
The upcoming edition also carries added national significance, as it will coincide with Ghana’s 70th Independence anniversary, providing an opportunity to combine a major sporting event with nationwide celebrations.
Beyond hosting a successful tournament, Ghana will be aiming for glory on the pitch as the Black Satellites seek to lift another continental crown in front of their home supporters.
With the formation of the Local Organising Committee expected in the coming weeks, preparations are set to intensify as Ghana begins its countdown to welcoming Africa’s finest young footballers in 2027.
