Caleb Yirenkyi Set for Record-Breaking Coventry City Move
Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi is closing in on a landmark transfer to Coventry City, with the English Premier League side agreeing a record-breaking deal with Danish club FC Nordsjælland that is expected to rewrite the country’s transfer history.
According to Danish publication Tipsbladet, Coventry have agreed to pay a guaranteed €27 million for the 20-year-old, with an additional €3 million in performance-related bonuses. Should the add-ons be met, the total package will rise to €30 million.
The move, which is pending a medical examination and the completion of contractual formalities, would become the largest transfer fee ever received by a Danish club, surpassing every previous sale in the history of the Danish Superliga.
The guaranteed €27 million fee alone is enough to establish a new benchmark, making Yirenkyi the first player to command such a transfer from Denmark.
The deal is equally significant for Coventry City, who are set to break their own transfer record to secure the services of the Ghana international.
Reports indicate that Yirenkyi chose Frank Lampard’s project after receiving assurances that he would play an important role in the squad and enjoy consistent first-team opportunities.
The midfielder’s stock has risen rapidly over the past year. After developing into one of the standout performers in the Danish Superliga, he further enhanced his reputation on the global stage with Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Yirenkyi’s defining moment came in Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Panama, where he scored the winning goal to underline his growing influence for the Black Stars.
His expected departure also means he will not travel with FC Nordsjælland for Thursday’s UEFA Conference League qualifying clash against Icelandic outfit Valur.
The transfer is another example of Nordsjælland’s success in producing elite talent. The Danish club has built a reputation as one of Scandinavia’s leading development hubs, previously nurturing players such as Mohammed Kudus, Patrick Dorgu and Sindre Walle Egeli before their moves to Europe’s top leagues.
