The Ghana Baseball and Softball Federation (GBSF) has officially launched the country’s first National Baseball League in a landmark ceremony held at Koshen Park, Labone Senior High School in Accra on Friday, June 28, 2025.

This groundbreaking initiative represents a pivotal moment in the history of baseball in Ghana and aims to create a structured and competitive platform for talent discovery, youth engagement, and national development through sport.

In his opening remarks, GBSF President Ernest Danso hailed the league’s inauguration as a turning point for Ghanaian baseball, commending all stakeholders for their commitment to the growth of the sport.

“Today, with the launch of the Ghana National Baseball League, we take a giant leap forward,” Danso declared. “This league is not about competition; it is a platform for talent discovery, a channel for growth, and a statement that Ghana is ready to take its place on the continental and global stage.”

He paid special tribute to the coaches, volunteers, and athletes who have remained committed to the game despite limited resources and challenges.

“We believed in the values that baseball teaches—teamwork, discipline, patience, and opportunity,” he said. “We are now building a sustainable ecosystem. One that will not only raise the level of play but also attract investment, increase media interest, and open doors for educational and athletic advancement of our youth.”

The newly inaugurated league will serve as a national platform to showcase emerging talent, facilitate grassroots participation, and offer players a direct route to national and international competitions. It also reflects a growing interest in alternative sports disciplines beyond Ghana’s traditional focus on football.

Danso further outlined a bold roadmap for the future of Ghanaian baseball, with the long-term vision of expanding the league to include youth, women’s, and school divisions, while pursuing qualification for international tournaments.

“Let’s move forward as one team, one vision, one mission,” he urged. “Let us raise the flag of Ghana high, not just in victory, but in how we inspire, how we lead, and how we build.”

The launch of the National Baseball League has been widely hailed by local sports enthusiasts and international partners as a major milestone in the country’s sporting development. The Ghana Baseball and Softball Federation hopes this initiative will not only strengthen the sport domestically but also help Ghana secure a place on the global baseball map.
