Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has refused to be drawn into speculation about his future with Ghana following the team’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying his immediate priority is to recover before making any decisions.
The experienced Portuguese tactician guided Ghana to the knockout stages of the tournament after taking charge only a few months before the competition. Although the Black Stars’ campaign ended with a narrow defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32, Queiroz earned praise for improving the team’s organisation and defensive discipline.
Asked after the match whether he intended to remain in charge of the Black Stars, the former Portugal, Iran and Egypt coach avoided giving a direct answer.
“Next for me, it’s to have a glass of water, relax after this game, refresh for the next morning, and start making other decisions,” Queiroz said.
His response leaves uncertainty over his future as Ghana begin preparations for upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and other international assignments.
Since his appointment, Queiroz has overseen a noticeable transformation in the Black Stars, steering the team through an unbeaten group-stage campaign before their elimination in the first knockout round.
While the Ghana Football Association is yet to comment on the coach’s future, Queiroz’s remarks suggest any discussions about his long-term position will take place only after he has had time to reflect on the World Cup campaign.
For now, the veteran coach appears focused on taking stock of Ghana’s progress before deciding on the next chapter of his managerial career.
