Hearts of Oak head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has played down the significance of Karim Zito’s resignation from Asante Kotoko, describing the decision as a routine part of football coaching.

Zito stepped aside on Monday after Kotoko’s MTN FA Cup Round of 16 elimination by Aduana FC, bringing to an end a turbulent spell marked by inconsistent results and mounting pressure. The Porcupine Warriors have managed just one win in their last six league outings and currently sit fifth on the Ghana Premier League table with 35 points.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Dramani suggested that the public often oversimplifies the realities of coaching, placing undue blame on managers for on-field results.

“It’s normal. This is not the first time he has walked off from the coaching industry, and this is not going to be the last time. It’s always like that, and it’s very unfortunate when people don’t understand how the rudiments of the game go,” he said.

The Hearts of Oak boss further argued that the role of a coach is frequently misunderstood, with fans and observers quick to hold them solely accountable for outcomes.

“Unfortunately, coaches are not responsible for the outcomes of games. But many times they are perceived to be responsible for the outcomes of games,” Dramani added.

Kotoko’s struggles come at a delicate time, with the Kumasi giants preparing for a high-stakes Super Clash against Hearts of Oak this weekend. The Phobians are just one point behind their arch-rivals, adding extra edge to a fixture that could shape the title race and momentum for both sides.
