Black Queens Receive $2,000 Cash Reward from Sports Ministry for WAFCON Quarter-Final Qualification
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has presented Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, with a $2,000 cash prize each in recognition of their qualification to the quarter-finals of the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The gesture comes as a morale booster following the Queens’ impressive turnaround in the group stage of the tournament. After a slow start that saw them suffer a 2-0 defeat to defending champions South Africa and manage a 1-1 draw against Mali, Ghana bounced back with a dominant 4-1 win over Tanzania in their final group match.
That emphatic victory secured their place in the quarter-finals for the first time since 2016, marking a significant milestone for the team and reigniting hopes of a deep run in the tournament.
The Black Queens are set to face Algeria on Saturday, July 19, with a place in the semi-finals at stake. The encounter promises to be a tightly contested affair as Ghana continues its pursuit of continental glory.
