Ghanaian striker Antoine Semenyo has admitted that he shares the sentiments of many Ghanaians who believe the Black Stars have a strong squad capable of delivering top performances.

Speaking in an interview with Premier League TV, the AFC Bournemouth forward reflected on his journey with the national team and acknowledged the immense pressure from Ghanaian fans due to their deep passion for football.

Looking back at Ghana’s 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign, Semenyo highlighted the disappointing defeat to Uruguay, emphasizing that the Black Stars had what it took to secure a win.

“It felt like pressure, to be honest. There’s a lot of pressure from the fans because we’ve got a good team, and we’ve got to do well. I agree with them; we have a very good team, so there was a lot of pressure behind it. I think we needed to beat Uruguay to get through. Obviously, we lost. It was just frustrating,” he noted.

He further explained how passionate Ghanaian fans reacted to the disappointment.

“You look into the stands, all the fans were frustrated, angry, cussing at everyone, and that’s just the country in a nutshell. They just love football. Their week is determined by how well we do,” Semenyo added.

Currently enjoying a fine run of form in the English Premier League, Semenyo is expected to be named in Otto Addo’s squad for Ghana’s upcoming FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Chad and Madagascar in March.
