Swedish tactician Kim Lars Bjorkegren has officially arrived in Ghana to commence his role as the new head coach of the Black Queens.

The 43-year-old coach landed at Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, where he was welcomed by officials from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Bjorkegren takes over from Nora Hauptle, whose contract ended after a successful tenure with the team. His appointment, confirmed last month, came after successful negotiations with the GFA, culminating in a two-year contract.

As part of his introductory activities, Bjorkegren is scheduled to address the media in his first official press conference on Friday, February 14, at the GFA Secretariat in Accra.

The session will allow the Swedish coach to outline his vision and strategies for the Black Queens, as they prepare for upcoming challenges, including the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The first task for the new coach will be an international friendly against Morocco next week in Casablanca. This match, part of the February FIFA international window, will serve as a crucial test for Bjorkegren and his technical team as they assess the squad’s readiness for the rescheduled WAFCON tournament in July.

The Black Queens are aiming to go beyond the group stage at the continental tournament, having shown significant improvement in recent years.
