Black Bombers Coach Distances Himself from Team Selection for Commonwealth Games

Black Bombers head coach Akwasi Ofori Asare has clarified that he had no role in selecting Ghana’s final boxing squad for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, stating that his responsibility began only after the team had already been chosen.

Speaking on Sporty Drive, the veteran trainer addressed questions surrounding the composition of Ghana’s boxing team, making it clear that the selection process was handled before his involvement.

According to Ofori Asare, his primary responsibility was to prepare the athletes selected for the Games rather than determine who made the final squad.

“I wasn’t involved in selecting the final team,” he said.

The experienced coach explained that he only joined the team’s preparations after the selection exercise had been completed.

“I only came in to train the boxers once the selection had been made,” Ofori Asare added.

His remarks come amid discussions about Ghana’s boxing campaign at the Commonwealth Games, where questions have been raised about preparations and the team’s overall performance.
