2026 Commonwealth Games: Coach Asare Reveals Boxers Shared Shorts, Borrowed Training Gear at competition

Black Bombers head coach Isaac Ofori Asare has revealed the difficult conditions Ghana’s boxing team endured during the 2026 Commonwealth Games, claiming the team competed without receiving official kits throughout the tournament.

Speaking about the challenges faced by the national boxing team, Ofori Asare disclosed that a shortage of equipment forced some athletes to improvise in order to compete.

According to the veteran trainer, the team never received the kits they had expected for the Games, creating significant logistical problems during the competition.

“We didn’t receive kits during the tournament,” Ofori Asare said.

The Black Bombers coach explained that the lack of proper equipment became so severe that some athletes had to share essential competition attire.

“At one point, three boxers had to share a single pair of boxing shorts,” he revealed.

Ofori Asare added that the team was also forced to borrow training gear from the competition venue simply to continue their preparations.

“We even borrowed training gear from the centre just to prepare,” he said.

The revelations come after Ghana’s boxing team produced commendable performances despite the off-field challenges, with several athletes advancing deep into their respective divisions at the Commonwealth Games.
