Samson Deen, NSA Boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah Unite Ahead of Landmark Para Sports Events in Ghana
The President of the African Paralympic Committee (AfPC) and Ghana Paralympic Committee, Mr. Samson Deen, has held a high-level meeting with the new Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, to strengthen cooperation ahead of two major international para sports events scheduled for November 2025.
The meeting, which took place at the NSA headquarters in Accra, focused on Ghana’s preparations to host the AfPC Elective Congress and the continent’s first-ever Open Para Sports and Classification Festival. Both events mark a major milestone in the country’s commitment to inclusive sports development and positioning Ghana as a hub for para sports in Africa.
Mr. Deen, speaking during the courtesy call, emphasized Ghana’s growing leadership in para sports and highlighted the urgent need to address infrastructure gaps and expand classification opportunities across the continent.
“Africa’s para athletes are talented but structurally underserved,” he noted. “With Ghana taking the lead in hosting a continental classification festival, we’re not just creating opportunities — we’re correcting historic inequalities.”

The Classification Festival will offer African athletes access to international classification — a prerequisite for participation in Paralympic competitions — and will feature trained classifiers from around the world.
On his part, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah reaffirmed the NSA’s commitment to the cause, describing the initiatives as national priorities.
“This is a national priority,” he declared. “We’re committed to seeing para sports thrive and will provide the facilities and manpower needed to ensure success.”
The AfPC Elective Congress and Classification Festival are set to take place in November 2025 and will bring together key stakeholders, athletes, and policy influencers in para sports from across Africa and beyond.
