Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi marked a major milestone on Sunday as he played his 200th competitive match for FC St. Gallen in their hard-fought 1-0 win over FC Lugano in the Swiss Super League.

The matchday six encounter at Kybunpark was tightly contested, but a decisive strike from German midfielder Carlo Boukhalfa in the 29th minute proved enough to secure all three points for St. Gallen. The result preserved their unbeaten run and kept them at the summit of the league table.

Ati-Zigi, who has been the club’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper since his arrival in 2020, once again delivered a composed performance between the posts. The 28-year-old capped the occasion with his 39th clean sheet in St. Gallen colours.

Since joining the Swiss side from French outfit Sochaux five years ago, Ati-Zigi has maintained remarkable consistency despite competition for the starting role. His influence extends beyond domestic football — in the 2024/25 UEFA Europa Conference League, he recorded 33 saves, ranking as the third most by any goalkeeper in the competition.

On the international stage, Ati-Zigi has been a key member of Ghana’s national team. He rose to prominence during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where his assured performances saw him take command of the Black Stars’ No.1 shirt.

The Ghanaian shot-stopper’s landmark appearance highlights his enduring importance to FC St. Gallen, as both club and player continue to push for success in Switzerland and beyond.
