Ghanaian midfielder Abdul Aziz Issah’s stint with Spanish giants FC Barcelona has officially come to an end, after the club opted not to trigger the purchase clause in his loan deal, according to an announcement made on Monday, June 30, 2025.

The 19-year-old, who joined Barcelona’s reserve team, Barça Atletic, on loan from Ghana Premier League side Dreams FC in September 2024, will return to his parent club after making only two competitive appearances during his time in Spain.

Issah, regarded as one of Ghana’s brightest young midfield talents, was initially seen as a promising addition to Barcelona’s developmental ranks. His arrival in Spain came on the heels of an impressive campaign with Dreams FC, where he played a vital role in their CAF Confederation Cup run.

The youngster’s early days at Barça Atletic looked promising, especially after he received a call-up to train with the senior squad under new manager Hansi Flick. His inclusion in those training sessions raised hopes of a potential breakthrough.

However, Issah found regular playing time hard to come by, amassing just 26 minutes across two appearances for the club’s B team. For much of the season, he was left out of matchday squads, limiting his ability to showcase his abilities on the pitch.

His departure comes as part of a broader reshuffle at Barça Atletic, which also sees six other players leave the club following the expiration of their contracts in June.

Although his time in Catalonia didn’t unfold as hoped, Issah’s brief European experience has added a new layer to his football development. His technical qualities and youth still make him an attractive prospect, with several clubs across Europe said to be monitoring his progress.

For now, Issah returns to Dreams FC, where he is expected to feature in the upcoming domestic campaign and possibly earn another opportunity abroad.
