Former Black Stars striker Matthew Amoah has provided fresh insight into the consultative role he played before NAC Breda completed the signing of André Ayew, describing his contribution as small in percentage but significant in impact.

According to Amoah, his involvement began after media speculation surfaced about Ayew potentially joining the Dutch outfit. While he made it clear he was not part of the contractual discussions, the club’s top officials reached out to him for a professional evaluation of the player’s condition.

“It was only 10 percent, but it was literally one of the major ones because I was consulted by the club hierarchy about his fitness and condition after rumors of his transfer broke in the airwaves,” Amoah revealed.

Amoah’s opinion was highly valued given his dual background as a former top striker and his current role within NAC Breda’s coaching structure, where he focuses on the club’s attacking department. He explained that his assessment was informed by close observation of Ayew’s training routines in Ghana.

“I then told them he was quite fit because I saw most of his training videos at his dad’s club, Nania FC, with other teammates like Wakaso and others,” he explained.

Despite the positive feedback, Amoah urged caution, stressing that physical fitness alone does not immediately translate into match readiness. He advised the club to view Ayew as a player who would need time to regain competitive rhythm.

“So I told the team authorities he could be fit but not match-fit, so we could condition him if we are able to secure his signature and get him ready to help us.” he added.

Ayew, who had been unattached for several months before the move, has since joined NAC Breda and is gradually settling into the squad. His wealth of experience and leadership presence are already being felt as he works his way back to full match sharpness.
