AMPUTEE FOOTBALL : GHANA’S RICHARD EKWAM TURNS COACH IN TURKEY
One of Ghana’s experienced Amputee Football players, Richard Ekwam, has completed a coaching course, making him the first certified foreign coach in Turkey.
A member of the 2021 (Tanzania), 2024 (Egypt), African Cup as well 2023 (Ghana) Para Games winning team, Ekwam started his international career in 2012, when he joined Konya Amputee Football Club.
He fought his way to the captaincy of the club with a regular place on the team sheet.
With determination and commitment, Richard Ekwam took up the challenge of making it to the coaching bench, resulting in this sterling achievement.
His goal is to give back to his nation by helping groom up-and-coming players in the country and assuming the role of national coach.
“I want to give back to my nation whatever I have acquired as knowledge and experience and to help move disability sports in Ghana to another level,” he stated in an interview.

After a splendid performance at the 2011 Cup of African Nations for Amputee Football (CANAF) tournament in Ghana, Ekwam, who helped his nation win Silver, was invited by Konya Amputee Football Club for trials, where he excelled and became a regular player till date.
His feat puts Ghana once again at a high level in Amputee Football in the world.
Ghana is on record to have produced the first professional Amputee Football players in t he world when three players moved to Turkey in 2011 to begin their career in the disability sport.
