Ouattara Laments Fan Apathy After Hearts’ Final Game Draws Poor Attendance

Accra Hearts of Oak head coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, has voiced his disappointment over the lack of support from the club’s fans following a visibly low turnout at the Accra Sports Stadium during their final Ghana Premier League game of the season against FC Samartex.

Despite ending the season on a high with a 1-0 victory over the defending champions, the Phobians played in front of a largely empty stadium — a sight that left the Ivorian trainer visibly concerned about the club’s relationship with its supporters.

Speaking candidly in his post-match remarks, Coach Ouattara criticized the growing tendency among local fans to prioritise support for foreign clubs over their own.

“Without the fans, it is difficult for a team like Hearts of Oak to go forward, but the same fans are ready to support Real Madrid or Barcelona who don’t even know them,” Ouattara said. “That is my worry. They leave Hearts of Oak and support Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona…”

The coach’s comments have reignited the conversation about dwindling attendance and waning fan engagement in the domestic league, particularly among some of Ghana’s most historic clubs.

Hearts of Oak, a club with a proud legacy and one of the largest fan bases in the country, have struggled in recent seasons to fill their home stadium — a reality that has undermined the aura that once surrounded games at the Accra Sports Stadium.
