Ghana’s Black Queens head coach, Kim Lars Björkegren, has emphasized his commitment to long-term development as he prepares for his first official match in charge.

The Black Queens will face Morocco on Friday in Casablanca as part of their preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Björkegren acknowledged the challenge of facing a strong Moroccan side while stressing that the focus remains on refining the team’s playing style and future growth.

“Morocco is a good team with a lot of talent. Playing away from home will be a challenge, especially with our new coaching staff and players,” Björkegren stated.

“But we’re focused on building for the long term, learning from our mistakes, and preparing for the summer tournament. “We’ll work hard to win, but we’re also looking at the bigger picture,” he added.

The Black Queens will take on Morocco at 17:00 GMT at the Père Jégo Stadium in Casablanca before facing AS FAR Rabat in another test match three days later.

These friendlies form part of Björkegren’s strategy to assess his squad and implement his tactical philosophy as Ghana aims to make a strong impression at WAFCON 2024.
