2026 Commonwealth Games: Muntari Jibril Falls in Quarter-Finals, Misses Out on Medal
Ghanaian boxer Muntari Jibril has been eliminated from the men’s 90kg boxing competition at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after losing on points to McAllister Garyn in the quarter-finals.
Jibril produced a spirited display but was unable to overcome his opponent, with the judges awarding the contest to Garyn after the full distance.
The defeat ends Jibril’s medal hopes, as he bows out of the competition just one step away from the semi-finals, where a guaranteed podium finish would have been within reach.
Despite the setback, the Ghanaian heavyweight showed determination throughout the bout, battling hard against a composed and technically disciplined opponent.
Jibril’s exit marks the end of his Commonwealth Games campaign, adding to Ghana’s mixed fortunes in the boxing competition.
The Black Bombers have remained one of Team Ghana’s strongest medal prospects in Glasgow, with several fighters producing encouraging performances during the tournament.
Although Jibril was unable to progress beyond the last eight, his appearance in the quarter-finals reflects another competitive outing on the international stage.
