Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have learned their pathway to the 2028 Summer Olympics following the release of the African qualifiers draw by the Confederation of African Football.

The Black Queens have been exempted from the opening round of the qualifiers, advancing directly to the second stage where they will face either Mauritius or Djibouti. The two nations will first contest a preliminary tie to determine Ghana’s opponent.

Second-round matches are scheduled to take place between October 5 and October 13, 2026, marking Ghana’s first competitive step toward Olympic qualification.

Despite the advantage of bypassing the initial stage, the campaign ahead remains demanding. Ghana must progress through three additional knockout rounds after the second phase to secure one of Africa’s limited slots at the women’s football tournament.

The draw places emphasis on early preparation, with the technical team expected to fine-tune the squad ahead of what will be a high-stakes qualification journey.

Ghana last appeared at the Olympic Games in 2004, and the current generation will be aiming to end that long absence by delivering a consistent run through the qualifiers.
