GFA Announces Expanded 2025/26 Women’s FA Cup
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the 2025/26 Women’s FA Cup will officially kick off on the weekend of November 21, 2025, and run through to May 4, 2026, as outlined in the season’s approved football calendar.
This upcoming edition introduces a landmark expansion of the competition, doubling the number of participating teams from 32 to 64, in what is considered a significant step towards deepening the development of women’s football in Ghana.
According to the GFA, the 64-team format will include:
-
44 clubs from the Division One Regional Women’s Leagues, and
-
20 teams from the Women’s Premier League.
The tournament will open with a Round of 64 stage, with fixtures drawn on a regional basis to ease the burden of long-distance travel for lower-tier clubs. From the Round of 16, the competition will adopt a zonal format, maintaining fairness while introducing stiffer challenges as clubs progress.
Faith Ladies FC, who lifted the 2024/25 Women’s FA Cup after edging Jonina Ladies 2-1 in a thrilling final at the University of Ghana Stadium, will return as defending champions.
Their recent triumph marked their second major domestic title and further solidified their position as one of the dominant forces in Ghanaian women’s football.
The Women’s FA Cup has continued to gain prominence in recent years, serving as both a competitive platform and a talent pipeline for the national team.
The draw for the Round of 64 will be conducted in the weeks leading up to the start date, with full match schedules, venues, and broadcast details to be announced in due course.
