“You have to understand that we are human beings too”- Jordan Ayew to Ghanaians

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has called on Ghanaian supporters to show greater understanding towards players during difficult moments, stressing that footballers also face emotional challenges away from the pitch.

The experienced forward made the appeal while reflecting on the criticism that often follows disappointing results, particularly in an era where players are subjected to intense scrutiny from supporters and on social media.

Ayew acknowledged that frustration among fans is natural when expectations are not met, but urged people to remember that players are human beings with families and personal lives.

“You get frustrated, insulting this, insulting that, but you have to understand that we are human beings. Today can be good; tomorrow cannot be the same. You have to understand that players have emotions. They have families. Sometimes you need to put yourself in our shoes. It’s not everyone who can take that,” Ayew said.

The Ghana captain revealed that he regularly shares similar advice with his teammates, encouraging them to stay focused despite criticism and differing opinions from the public.

“That’s what I tell the boys. I tell them that at the end of the day, everyone has his own opinion, so it’s either you take it or leave it.”

Ayew’s comments come as the Black Stars prepare for another FIFA World Cup campaign, with expectations once again high among supporters hoping to see the national team make a deep run in the tournament.

Despite the challenges Ghana have faced in recent years, the 34-year-old remains convinced that the team is moving in the right direction and believes better days lie ahead.

“I had that feeling a little bit when we qualified for the World Cup, but I know there’s more to come. There’s something coming. There’s something on the way. So I know if we keep on pushing, we will be rewarded.”

The forward’s optimism reflects the growing confidence within the squad as Ghana continues its preparations for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia and will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17.

As Ghana prepares for one of the biggest challenges in international football, Ayew hopes players and supporters can remain united in pursuit of a common goal: bringing pride and success to the nation on the world stage.
