Real Madrid Linked With Caleb Yirenkyi as Michael Essien Reportedly Joins Pursuit
Interest in Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi continues to grow across Europe, with reports from Denmark suggesting Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid has taken concrete steps in its pursuit of the highly rated FC Nordsjaelland star.
According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, the Spanish giants have established contact with former Ghana midfielder Michael Essien as they assess a possible move for the 20-year-old, who has emerged as one of the most sought-after young talents in Scandinavian football.
Yirenkyi’s stock has risen significantly following a series of impressive performances for FC Nordsjaelland and the Ghana national team. The midfielder is reportedly valued at around €30 million, with several clubs monitoring his progress closely.
Essien, who enjoyed a successful spell at Real Madrid and currently serves as assistant coach at FC Nordsjaelland, is believed to be playing a role in discussions surrounding the player. The report also links the renewed interest to speculation surrounding a possible return of José Mourinho to the Santiago Bernabéu.
The Danish club has already demonstrated its determination to retain the midfielder. Earlier this year, FC Nordsjaelland reportedly turned down an €18 million offer from an unnamed Premier League side, signalling their belief in the player’s growing market value.
Competition for Yirenkyi’s signature is expected to intensify in the coming months. Portuguese heavyweights FC Porto have also been credited with strong interest and are reportedly considering an offer worth approximately €20 million.
The Ghanaian further enhanced his reputation this week after scoring his first senior international goal in the Black Stars’ 1-1 friendly draw against Wales in Cardiff. His composed finish provided another reminder of the qualities that have attracted attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Yirenkyi’s breakthrough season in Denmark has been a major factor behind the growing transfer interest. The former Right to Dream Academy graduate featured in 30 league matches during the recently concluded campaign, contributing two goals and six assists while establishing himself as a key figure in midfield.
His rapid development has also been recognised at international level. The youngster has secured a place in Ghana’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and is expected to be part of the Black Stars’ campaign in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
With Europe’s elite clubs circling and the World Cup offering another major platform to showcase his talent, Yirenkyi appears poised for what could be a defining period in his young career.
