Yaw Preko Celebrates Ghana U-15’s Victory at Mondialito Tournament
Head coach of Ghana’s U-15 national team, Yaw Preko, has expressed immense pride in his squad following their victorious campaign at the 2025 Mondialito Promise Tournament, capping it off with a commanding 4-1 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the final.
The young Ghanaian side showcased impressive form throughout the competition, registering wins against Maccabi Petah Tikva and Hapoel Tel Aviv in the group stages. The final marked a rematch against Maccabi Tel Aviv, whom Ghana had already faced in the tournament opener.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Yaw Preko underlined the emotional and developmental importance of the achievement.
“I’m a developer, and I’ve been through these stages as a player. To see the excitement on the faces of the boys took me back to the ’80s, when we were their age. It’s fulfilling for me as a manager. It shows that I’m doing something positive. We just need to keep working hard, and when the opportunity arises again, we have to make sure we deliver,” he shared.
Preko also acknowledged the valuable lessons gained from the tournament, especially in terms of physical approach and intensity brought by opposing teams.
“The energy of the boys from other teams was different from ours. Their counter-pressing and intensity stood out. We focus on individual technique and teamwork, but we learned a lot from their fighting spirit,” he added.
The victory not only adds silverware to Ghana’s youth football program but also strengthens the nation’s reputation as a hub for young, exciting talent.
