Presidential aspirant for the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Lawyer Richard Akpokavie, has pledged to restore unity among Ghana’s various sports federations if elected into office.

Akpokavie believes that greater cohesion among the federations is essential for Ghana to achieve its full potential on the international sporting stage, especially in Olympic-related disciplines.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Sportsnite program, the experienced sports administrator outlined his motivation for contesting in the upcoming GOC elections, emphasizing the need for collective progress..

According to Akpokavie, the current landscape of sports administration in Ghana is fragmented, with many federations operating in silos rather than in collaboration under the broader GOC umbrella.

“The sports federations are not united. My main aim is to bring all associations under the Ghana Olympic Committee together to foster unity and achieve success—that’s why I’m contesting for the presidency of GOC,” he declared.

He stressed that with unity comes stronger advocacy for resources, better organization of multisport events, and a more coordinated approach to athlete development and international representation.

With the GOC elections set to take place on 26th April 2025, Akpokavie’s promise to build bridges between associations could prove to be a decisive factor in his bid for the top job.
