Ghana international Tariq Lamptey has taken an important step in his career comeback after returning to training following a lengthy recovery from an ACL injury that derailed his time in Italy.

The versatile defender is currently without a club after parting ways with Fiorentina, bringing an early end to a spell that never fully took off in Serie A.

Lamptey arrived in Italy in 2025 after securing a move to Fiorentina on a three-year contract. The transfer marked a new chapter following his years in English football, where he represented Chelsea and later established himself in the Premier League with Brighton.

However, his stay in Florence proved challenging. Opportunities were limited from the outset, and the Ghanaian managed only two appearances for the club, accumulating just 25 minutes of competitive action before injury struck.

The ACL injury sidelined Lamptey for an extended period and further complicated his efforts to establish himself in Italy. Eventually, both player and club agreed to terminate his contract, leaving him free to explore new opportunities.

Having now completed his rehabilitation, the 25-year-old has returned to the training ground and is focused on rebuilding his fitness as he seeks a fresh start ahead of the 2026/27 season.

His availability is expected to attract interest from clubs looking to strengthen their defensive options, particularly given his experience in both the Premier League and international football.

Lamptey’s return comes as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Despite regaining fitness, the defender was not included in Carlos Queiroz’s final 26-man squad for the tournament.

The omission means Lamptey will watch the competition from afar while concentrating on securing his next move and re-establishing himself at club level.

Still only 25, the defender remains at an age where he can revive his career, and his successful recovery from a serious injury offers hope that the next chapter could prove far more rewarding than his brief stint in Italy.
