Ghana’s boxing fraternity is in mourning following the untimely death of Ernest Akushey, popularly known by his ring name Bahubali. The 29-year-old fighter passed away on Tuesday morning, just 11 days after his last professional contest at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Akushey stepped into the ring on September 12 for a much-anticipated super middleweight clash against Jacob Dickson. The bout, which drew a large crowd of fans, ended in heartbreak for Akushey as he was stopped in the eighth round. Reports later indicated that he suffered internal bleeding as a result of injuries sustained during the fight.

The talented pugilist, who alternated between the super middleweight and light heavyweight divisions, built a respectable record over his career, registering six victories in eight professional appearances.
