Rose Yeboah makes history with high jump final spot in Tokyo
Ghana’s Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah has booked her place in the women’s high jump final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, clearing 1.92m in Thursday’s qualification round.
Her achievement marks a historic moment for Ghanaian athletics, as she becomes the first athlete from the country to reach the final of an individual event at the global showpiece in nearly two decades. The last time Ghana celebrated such a milestone was in 2005, when Ignatius Gaisah captured silver in the men’s long jump and Margaret Simpson clinched bronze in the heptathlon at the Helsinki edition.
The qualification round proved highly competitive, with 12 jumpers securing their passage to the final after meeting the automatic standard of 1.92m. Among those advancing are Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson, Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Yuliia Levchenko, Serbia’s Angelina Topić, Great Britain’s Morgan Lake, Michaela Hrubá of the Czech Republic, Poland’s Maria Żodzik, Germany’s Christina Honsel, and Ghana’s Yeboah.
The women’s high jump final is set for Sunday, September 21, at the iconic Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, where Yeboah will look to etch her name even further into Ghana’s sporting history.
