Kofi Adams Confident Team Ghana Will Surpass Previous Commonwealth Games Medal Haul
Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has expressed confidence that Team Ghana is well-positioned to deliver an improved performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, following encouraging reports from coaches and athletes ahead of the competition.
The minister, who has been monitoring the country’s preparations, said the mood within the national contingent is positive, with athletes highly motivated to compete for honours in Glasgow.
According to Adams, the coaching staff have assured him that Team Ghana has what it takes to return home with a stronger medal tally than the country achieved at the previous edition of the Games.
“Ghana’s athletes are in high spirits,” he said.
The Sports Minister revealed that the optimism is shared by the technical teams overseeing the various disciplines.
“Their coaches have assured me that they hope to win some medals, hopefully better than we did the last time,” Adams added.
Ghana secured two silver medals and one bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and is aiming to improve on that performance when the Games begin later this month.
Several national teams have intensified preparations in recent weeks, with athletes participating in local and international training camps to sharpen their readiness for the competition.
The Black Bombers, one of Ghana’s strongest medal prospects, have been training in Belfast, Ireland, alongside other international boxing teams as part of their build-up to the Games.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, bringing together athletes from across the Commonwealth in pursuit of sporting glory.
