Nubia Adjei Exits Commonwealth Games 50m Butterfly After Heat Performance
Ghanaian swimmer Nubia Adjei has concluded her campaign in the women’s 50-metre butterfly at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after narrowly missing out on a place in the semi-finals.
Competing at the Tollcross Swimming Centre in Glasgow, Adjei finished eighth in her heat with a time of 30.02 seconds. The performance was not enough to secure progression, as the semi-final spots were filled by swimmers posting faster times in other heats.
Despite her early exit, the competition marks another valuable appearance on the international stage for the Ghanaian swimmer, who continues to establish herself among the country’s leading talents in the pool.
Adjei arrived in Glasgow following an impressive run over the past year, highlighted by a record-breaking performance at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, where she set a new Ghanaian national record in the women’s 50m butterfly.
The swimmer has also enjoyed success closer to home, collecting multiple medals for Ghana at the 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships held in Accra, further underlining her status as one of the nation’s brightest swimming prospects.
Her participation at the Commonwealth Games forms part of Team Ghana’s broader campaign across several sporting disciplines, including athletics, boxing, weightlifting, para sports and swimming.
Although she was unable to advance beyond the heats, Adjei’s appearance in Glasgow adds to her growing experience at major international competitions and is expected to contribute to her continued development ahead of future continental and global championships.
