Queiroz Ready to Lead Black Stars Into World Cup Knockout Battle
Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz believes Ghana’s FIFA World Cup journey enters its defining chapter this weekend, insisting the knockout stages are where the tournament truly begins.
The Portuguese manager is preparing his side for a high-stakes Round of 32 encounter against Colombia at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, with a place in the last 16 up for grabs.
Having guided Ghana safely through the group stage, Queiroz says his extensive experience in knockout football has left him well prepared for the pressure that accompanies such occasions.
“I’m fully ready. I have been in this situation [knockout football] a couple of times,” Queiroz said.
“The real World Cup starts now. These are the games that count and matter.”
Since taking charge of the Black Stars, Queiroz has transformed Ghana into one of the tournament’s most resilient defensive sides. The team conceded only two goals during the group stage while combining defensive solidity with an effective counter-attacking approach to secure qualification for the knockout rounds.
Their next challenge, however, promises to be their toughest yet.
Colombia arrive in Kansas City after finishing top of Group K without suffering defeat, boasting an attack packed with quality and confidence following an impressive group-stage campaign.
Despite the difficult task ahead, Queiroz has urged his players to embrace the occasion, reminding them that everything achieved in the group stage now counts for little.
