Queiroz Laughs Off Claims of Outside Influence in Black Stars Selection
Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has rejected suggestions that people outside the national team’s technical setup play a role in determining who earns a place in the Black Stars squad.
The Portuguese manager addressed the longstanding topic during a media interaction ahead of Ghana’s international friendly against Wales, a match that forms part of the team’s final preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
When asked whether external figures had any influence over his player selections, Queiroz responded with a mixture of humour and confidence, using his reaction to make his point.
“Look at me nicely, look at me nicely again, and you are going to have the answer to your question,” he said with a grin.
“You see my answer? You don’t see me smiling? That’s my answer to you.”
His remarks sparked laughter among journalists in attendance, but the message behind the response was clear: decisions regarding squad selection remain firmly under his control.
The issue of alleged interference in Black Stars call-ups has frequently surfaced in discussions among supporters and football observers over the years. Questions have often been raised about whether national team coaches operate with complete independence when selecting players.
