Police Ladies Head Coach Yusif Basigi Sets Clear Target Ahead of WAFU B Qualifiers
Police Ladies head coach Yusif Basigi has made it clear that the team’s ultimate mission at the upcoming 2025 WAFU Zone B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers is to book a spot in the main continental competition.
The Ghana Women’s Premier League champions have been drawn in Group B, where they will face a stern test against Nigerian giants Bayelsa Queens, Togo’s Association Sportive de la Kozah, and Benin’s Sam Nelly.
The tournament will take place from Saturday, August 23, to September 4, in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, with only the eventual winners earning qualification to the CAF Women’s Champions League later this year.
Speaking ahead of the qualifiers, Basigi admitted his side faces a tough challenge but stressed the importance of approaching each game with the right mentality.
“We are not underestimating or overestimating anyone because every club earned their place,” he told Graphic Sports.
“But our focus is to take each match as it comes and fight for the ultimate. We are going to Côte d’Ivoire to qualify; that’s the mindset.”
Police Ladies will be making their debut in the regional competition after clinching the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League title for the first time last season. The team is now aiming to translate their domestic success onto the continental stage under the guidance of their experienced coach.
