Ouattara Hits Out at Journalists After Hearts of Oak’s Narrow Win Over Medeama

Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has taken aim at the media, questioning their expectations following his side’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Medeama SC in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The victory — sealed by a stunning first-half long-range effort from midfielder Raphael Amponsah — ended a four-match winless streak for the Phobians.

However, despite securing all three points, Hearts of Oak’s performance drew criticism from some sections of the fanbase and media for lacking flair and urgency.

When asked about his satisfaction with the team’s performance against Medeama, Ouattara offered a pointed response aimed at journalists.

“Sometimes, I ask myself, what do you [journalists] want?” he questioned. “When we win, the performance is not good. When we play well and lose, then you’re criticising us. Tell me the truth, what do you want?”

The coach, who has come under pressure in recent weeks, emphasized the importance of results over aesthetics.

“Me, I need three points. If I get the three points, all this commentary is not my concern. The table is not about performance; we want three points,” he added.

Ouattara is no stranger to confrontations with the press. In December, following a defeat to arch-rivals Asante Kotoko, he famously dismissed post-match questions as “unreasonable lottery questions,” further highlighting his often-tense relationship with the media.

Sunday’s win keeps Hearts of Oak within six points of the league leaders, maintaining their hopes of mounting a late challenge in the title race.
