Tanko Blames Lapses and Injury Setbacks for Medeama’s Missed Victory Against Kotoko
Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has attributed his team’s inability to hold on to their advantage against Asante Kotoko to a combination of fatigue, injuries, and a brief lapse in concentration.
The Yellow and Mauve opened a commanding 2-0 lead in their Matchday 12 clash at the Baba Yara Stadium, but Kotoko mounted a strong comeback to force a 2-2 draw, denying Medeama what seemed like a certain victory.
Tanko, reflecting on the outcome, admitted that his side’s grip on the match loosened at a crucial moment, allowing Kotoko back into the contest.
“I will say we lost concentration, and I have to say that because of injuries, it was really painful, and after leading 2-0, the game ended in 2-2. I mean, this is football [and] we have to go and work on our mistakes,” Tanko said.
He further explained that the team’s options were limited in the latter stages due to earlier substitutions and the physical toll on his players.
“Maybe we made our changes earlier, and in the last twenty minutes, we couldn’t have anyone to change, and you could see that some of our players were tired.”
Despite dropping points, Tanko insists the performance warranted more than a draw.
“I mean, as I said, it’s football [and] normally before the game if you say I should take three points, I will agree, but how the game went, definitely we deserved the three points, but that’s football,” he added.
