Nations FC Edge Berekum Chelsea on Penalties to Reach MTN FA Cup Semifinals
Nations FC secured a place in the semifinals of the MTN FA Cup after overcoming Berekum Chelsea F.C. 4–3 in a tense penalty shootout on Sunday.
The quarterfinal contest at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park proved to be a closely fought encounter, with neither side able to find the breakthrough during the entire 90 minutes of regulation time.
Both teams created opportunities throughout the match, but solid defending and missed chances meant the deadlock remained intact. Extra time also failed to produce a goal, forcing the tie to be settled from the penalty spot after 120 minutes of football.
When the shootout arrived, Nations FC held their nerve to convert crucial kicks and eventually claimed a 4–3 victory, sending the Abrankese-based club into the last four of the competition.
The win keeps Nations FC firmly in the hunt for their first FA Cup triumph as they continue an impressive campaign in domestic competitions.
Attention will now turn to the semifinals, where Nations FC are set to face Aduana Stars F.C. in what promises to be another fiercely contested matchup.
