Interim head coach of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito, has admitted that his team faces a tough test when they lock horns with Berekum Chelsea in the semi-finals of the 2023/24 MTN FA Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors are set to battle the Bibires on Sunday, May 11, at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa, with a place in the grand final on the line. Kotoko are eager to end a trophy drought, and the FA Cup presents a valuable opportunity to do so.

In a pre-match interview with AKSC Media, Coach Zito acknowledged the strength of their opponents, especially with Samuel Boadu at the helm of Berekum Chelsea.

“It’s never easy. It’s very difficult. I know what he can do as a coach. It’s been long since we won one of this cup, so we are all eager to win, and I know it won’t be easy for us. It will be very difficult,” Zito admitted.

Zito’s comments reflect the mutual respect between the two clubs and the high stakes involved in the upcoming clash.

The other semi-final will see lower-tier sides Golden Kick FC and Attram de Visser Sporting Club face off on Saturday, May 10, also at the TnA Stadium.

Asante Kotoko, who last lifted the FA Cup in 2017, are hoping to cap off an otherwise inconsistent season with silverware. However, they will have to overcome a well-drilled Berekum Chelsea side determined to make their own history in the competition.

The winner of the Kotoko-Berekum Chelsea clash will face the victor of Saturday’s fixture in the final of the prestigious domestic tournament.
