Ghana Men’s 4x100m Relay Team Target World Championships Berth at Guangzhou Qualifier
Ghana’s national men’s 4x100m relay team is eyeing qualification for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo as they prepare to compete at the upcoming World Athletics Relay Championships in Guangzhou, China.
Scheduled for May 10–11 at the Guangdong Olympic Stadium, the relay championship will serve as the official qualification event for Tokyo. The top 14 teams in each relay event will secure automatic spots for the global showpiece in Japan.
Ghana has been drawn in Heat 1 of the men’s 4x100m relay—a challenging group that includes sprinting heavyweights Great Britain & Northern Ireland and France. Other competitors in the heat are Korea, Colombia, and Poland, making for a high-stakes contest.
According to competition rules, only the top two teams from each heat will automatically qualify for the World Championships, placing significant pressure on Team Ghana to deliver a strong performance.
In a statement released on May 8, 2025, Ghana Athletics confirmed the squad list for the relay showdown. The team features a blend of experienced and emerging sprint talents: Joseph Paul Amoah, Sean Nana Awere, Kweku Safo-Antwi, Ibrahim Fuseini, Barnabas Aggerh and Mustapha Alufar Bokpin
With Joseph Paul Amoah leading the pack as Ghana’s most seasoned international sprinter, the team is optimistic about their chances. Coach and technical staff have emphasized speed consistency and baton precision in training, critical factors that could define success in a stacked heat.
The Guangzhou meet represents a major opportunity for the relay squad to return to the global stage after missing out on recent editions of the World Championships. With Tokyo 2025 on the horizon, all eyes will be on Ghana’s sprint relay men as they seek to fly the nation’s flag high.
