Mohammed Salisu has handed Black Stars a timely boost after returning to training ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup next month.

The hardworking centre-back resumed activities with AS Monaco on Thursday following a lengthy recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Salisu is expected to gradually reintegrate into full first-team sessions before the end of the 2025/26 campaign as he continues to rebuild match fitness.

The 27-year-old suffered the serious knee injury during a Ligue 1 encounter against Olympique Lyonnais in January, an incident that prematurely ended his season. He later underwent successful surgery before beginning rehabilitation.

Despite his absence in recent months, Salisu remains a crucial figure for Ghana after playing a significant role in the country’s successful World Cup qualifying campaign. The defender featured in eight qualifying matches and contributed two goals as the Black Stars secured qualification for their fifth appearance at football’s biggest tournament.

His recovery is expected to strengthen the options available to newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz ahead of the competition.
