Mohamed Fuseini delivered the decisive breakthrough for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise as the Brussels club defeated RSC Anderlecht 3-1 after extra time to win the Belgian Cup on Thursday night.

The highly charged derby final at Lotto Park produced an intense battle filled with late drama before Union Saint-Gilloise eventually emerged victorious to secure their fourth Belgian Cup title.

Fuseini, who started the game on the bench, once again made a major impact after being introduced during the contest, continuing his reputation as an influential figure in key moments for the club.

Union SG eventually found the breakthrough in the 74th minute when Kevin Mac Allister finished from close range after connecting with a delivery from Anan Khalaili.

However, Anderlecht responded quickly and restored parity seven minutes later through Mihajlo Cvetkovic, who completed a flowing attacking move involving Thorgan Hazard and Lucas Hey.

With the final entering extra time, Fuseini produced the defining moment of the evening in the 95th minute, calmly finding the net to hand Union Saint-Gilloise the lead once again.

Just five minutes later, Kevin Rodríguez added a third goal on the counterattack to secure a memorable derby victory and confirm Union SG’s successful title defence.

The triumph continues a remarkable period for the Belgian side, who ended a 110-year wait for Belgian Cup success in 2024 before now retaining the trophy against their city rivals.

Fuseini’s goal also capped another encouraging week for the Ghanaian forward, who has now scored in back-to-back matches after previously netting in Union SG’s recent league victory over KV Mechelen.

Despite often featuring from the bench this season, the Ghanaian attacker has contributed three goals in 24 appearances across all competitions, including two in the cup tournament.
