Medeama Sign Sudan International Goalkeeper Monged El Neel Ahead of New Season
Ghana Premier League outfit Medeama SC have bolstered their goalkeeping department with the acquisition of Sudan international Monged El Neel Abuzaid Salman, who joins the club as a free agent ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The experienced goalkeeper arrives in Tarkwa after ending his spell with South Sudanese side El Merriekh Bentiu, where he featured during the 2025/26 season following his move to the club a year earlier.
Medeama’s latest signing brings considerable experience from both domestic and continental football, having previously played for Sudanese clubs Hilal Al Sahil and Al Merrikh SC between 2017 and 2023.
Throughout his career, the 30-year-old has accumulated significant experience in CAF inter-club competitions, making 18 appearances across the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
His familiarity with high-level continental football is expected to strengthen Medeama’s squad as the club prepares for another demanding season.
On the international stage, El Neel has established himself as one of Sudan’s most reliable goalkeepers.
He was the Falcons of Jediane’s first-choice goalkeeper at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, starting all three group-stage matches and helping his country reach the Round of 16.
The shot-stopper also featured prominently during Sudan’s qualifying campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making three appearances as the national team battled for a place at the global tournament.
Since making his senior international debut against Senegal in 2018, El Neel has gone on to earn 10 caps for Sudan, becoming one of the country’s most experienced players between the posts.
His arrival is another important addition for Medeama as the former Ghana Premier League champions continue reinforcing their squad ahead of the new season.
The Tarkwa-based club will be hoping El Neel’s leadership qualities, international experience and proven record in African competitions provide added confidence and stability in goal as they aim to compete strongly in the Ghana Premier League and other competitions during the 2026/27 season.
