Day One of the 2024 President Cup Badminton Tournament Delivers Thrills at Borteyman
The opening day of the 2024 President Cup Badminton Tournament brought electrifying action and standout performances at the Borteyman Sports Complex.
The highly anticipated two-day event, which runs from December 26th to 27th, has gathered Ghana’s finest badminton talent to vie for the prestigious trophy and ultimate bragging rights.
The tournament serves not only as a competitive showcase but also as a preparatory ground for Ghana’s top players ahead of upcoming international events. Athletes competed across five categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles.
Top-seeded Ahmad Abdul-Samad demonstrated his dominance, dispatching unseeded Paa Kwesi Akpoza in straight sets. Second seed Ebenezer Kwame Korampong delivered a commanding performance against Clement Appiah, winning 21-6, 21-9.
In the women’s singles, the tournament’s top seed, Racheal Quarcoo, showcased her class with a straight-sets victory over Priscilla Aboagye. Second seed Moslena Ama Koramah Adu overwhelmed Peggy Dornukuor Akwada, securing an emphatic 21-2, 21-2 victory.
Top-seeded pair Brempong Ofori-Acheampong and Vincent Nii-Teye Tettey triumphed over Clement Appiah and Nathenial Abeka Kwaw in a closely contested match, winning 21-15, 21-16 to progress to the second round.
Day two of the tournament promises even more action as the semifinals and finals for all categories are set to take place on December 27th.
