Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has stated that it is the responsibility of the Ministry for Sports and Recreation to make the Black Stars’ budget public, not the FA.

His comments follow President John Dramani Mahama’s directive during the State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025, instructing the Sports Minister to ensure full transparency regarding national team expenditures.

In his address, President Mahama emphasized the need for accountability in government spending on national teams, particularly as the Black Stars prepare for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers next month.

In reaction, Henry Asante Twum clarified that the GFA does not control the disclosure of national team budgets, as that duty rests solely with the Sports Ministry.

Making Black Stars’ budget public is not the responsibility of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). It is the responsibility of the Sports Ministry, he told Sporty FM.

With the Black Stars set to return for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March, the debate over budget transparency continues to be a key issue for stakeholders and football enthusiasts across the country.
