Ghanaian athlete and national record holder, Lariba Sakat Juliana, has earned a bronze medal in the women’s 1500m race at the ongoing African Military Games, currently being held at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria.

The race was fiercely competitive, with Ethiopia’s Nuramo Tigist Girma clinching gold in 4:23.22 seconds, followed closely by Kenya’s Cynthia Chepngeno, who secured silver with a time of 4:25.29 seconds. Lariba Sakat Juliana finished strong to take bronze, clocking 4:27.13 seconds.

Reflecting on her performance, Lariba expressed satisfaction with her podium finish despite the stiff competition. “The race was very tough, but I was determined to make it to the podium this time since I narrowly missed out in the 5000m. The Ethiopians and Kenyans were very competitive, but I stayed focused and didn’t give them the chance,” she remarked.

This achievement follows Lariba’s stellar performance in the 5000m event earlier in the competition, where she set a new Ghanaian national record with a time of 15:56.72.

Lariba Sakat Juliana is set to compete in her final event, the women’s 4x400m relay, on Saturday, November 30, 2024, as she aims to conclude her campaign at the African Military Games on a high note.
