Kofi Adams Confident Baba Yara Stadium Will Soon Receive FIFA and CAF Approval
Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed confidence that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi will soon regain its certification from FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following ongoing renovation works.
The iconic facility was recently deemed unfit to host international and continental matches after a CAF inspection identified several deficiencies that required urgent attention. As a result, Asante Kotoko have been forced to play their CAF Confederation Cup fixtures at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Kofi Adams — who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Buem — revealed that significant upgrades are already underway to meet the required international standards.
“FIFA is concerned about the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, but massive improvements are currently underway. I believe the pitch will be approved after CAF conducts its inspection,” he assured.
He further disclosed that authorities are working diligently to address all outstanding issues highlighted in CAF’s initial report.
“We have been given some areas to fix before we get the place approved, and I know that we will surely do that,” he added confidently.
At present, the Accra Sports Stadium remains the only approved venue in Ghana for hosting FIFA and CAF-sanctioned competitions.
